We implemented 4 different post formats:
If you want to activate these custom posts, you will have to install and activate Vafpress Post Formats UI plugin.
If you want to create a post, just go to your WordPress dashboard and choose Posts > Add New from the left menu.
There are 4 different types of post (image works like a standard post type).
Before publishing your post, don’t forget to write your post title, choose category, etc. Once you are fnished with your post, you have to click the Publish button.
A static page is a great option to show your About Me or Contact page.
In order to create a new page, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Pages > Add New
Enter page title and description. You can also switch to a different page template. You can choose between Default template, Full Width template and Sidebar Left template. The difference between all these templates is that you can show a different placement for your widgets.
NOTE: Don’t forget to add some widgets to your sidebar (if you choose to have a sidebar). If you want to do this just go to Appearance > Widgets and drag some widgets.
Creating a new menu is very simple. Follow these steps:
On the left side you will find 4 different (or more) drop-down boxes:
NOTE: If you want to add a link to your Home page, named Home, you need to select Custom Links drop-down box. Enter your home page’s URL into the URL field and choose a name.
By default, the homepage will be the page that displays all of your blog posts. Your homepage probably will be the first page that users will see, so it is important for you to choose the right layout and features.
In order to customize your homepage look, colors etc., go to your WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Customize. This link will redirect you to WordPress Live Preview (it's a default WordPress feature).
All Ruby’s features are based on WordPress Live Preview and every change you will do, you will see live.
If you want to change your homepage layout just expand the Layout Settings tab and from the drop-down list below, choose your favorite layout.
As you can see, this change is also possible for Archive page and Post page.
You have to options. You can choose between Predefined Color Skins and you can set up your own colors.
If you want to use one of the predefined color skins, just go to WordPress Customizer and choose Skin Color Options > Predefined Color Skins > Choose Skin
You can also set up your own colors and you can do this in the same place (WordPress Customizer > Skin Color Options)
Ruby’s slider is completely customizable. It’s not connected directly to post feed so it means that you can show whatever you want on your slides. Of course, you can connect your slides with your posts if you want to.
To set up your slider, in your WordPress Customizer choose a Home Slider from listed tabs. Remember, you have to be on your homepage to see the Home Slider tab.
Before you add a new slide, go to Slider main settings and check Auto play feature if you want to play slides automatically.
To add a new slide, go back to Home Slider tab and choose a Slide # to customize it.
You can add new picture, change the title, add simple description or a button with a link to your post. See the picture below.
A sidebar is an area that displays widgets on the right or left side of your main blog area which contains posts.
You can choose if you want to use sidebar or not. To see what is best for you, go to WordPress Customizer and from the listed tabs choose Layout Settings. Inside Layout Settings look for a Home page layout drop-down menu and choose the best option for you.
To add, remove or edit your sidebar widgets, you have to, in your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Widgets > Main Sidebar
Here, you can click choose the widget from the list and drag it to the desired place (Main Sidebar in this case). After you add new widget, you can sort them and change the order. See the example below.
You can also manage your widgets directly from WordPress Customizer. You can just click the Manage in Customizer button. The difference is that you will see everything live.
To set up your social icons, in WordPress Customizer go to Social Media tab.
Choose the icons you want to use by pasting links to your social profiles in the right places.
These icons will be displayed in the top bar and in the Ruby Social Widget (if you decide to use it). You have the possibility to turn them off by clicking the Hide Social in Header option located in the Layout Settings tab in the WordPress Customizer. See the example below.
NOTE: If you want to display social icons in the sidebar, all you have to do is to add Ruby’s widget (Ruby Social Widget) to the Main Sidebar.
Here is a list of widgets included in Ruby theme.
You have 3 custom things to set up.
NOTE: The widget is simply named Instagram and to use it, you have to install and activate plugin called WP Instagram Widget.
